“I worked with Ben for help with my personal statements for nursing school applications. Working with Ben was a very rewarding experience. His helpful feedback and edits allowed me to identify my strengths as well as improve my applications and current writing skills. Thanks to Ben's guidance, I gained more confidence in not only my writing, and ability to craft clear and captivating personal statements, but also my applications as a whole. Through Ben's help I got accepted to the University of Pennsylvania, my top choice nursing program!”

“Working with Ben is the main reason I got through my college application process without crazy stress. I watched so many of my friends working with big college counseling firms that gave them long to-do lists and only made them feel more stressed and were focused on only what colleges wanted to hear rather than what was authentic to the students. Ben helped me organize all my ideas in a way that made sense and allowed me to be super authentic in my writing and shape what was meaningful and important to me into a strong essay. He could tell me how my words were functioning and the impacts of my sentences, giving me suggestions that I understood. The most confident part of my application was my essays, which made me feel much better and less anxious when I submitted them. When I got into my top choice school (Scripps College), I felt so good about it because, thanks to Ben, I was totally honest in my essays, so I felt like I had been accepted to the school as my complete self and knew it was the right place for me.”

I started consulting on college application essays because I love the feeling of making writing better. In the age of autofill and predictive text, of "large language" AI models like Chat GPT, I believe the individuated human voice will increase in value–especially on the intuitive level, in the zone of potential meanings where reader and writer meet. In the past, it was easier for readers to gauge a writer's investment in the text; now, many of the features that signal such an investment can be automated. I'm interested in working with students who want to recognize themselves in what they write. Whether you start longhand in a notebook, on your phone's notes app, or on a blank doc, I can help you say what you want to say.
I have helped students get into top law schools (Berkeley, Chicago), Nursing programs (see Ariel’s testimonial, above), and undergrad (USC, Scripps, and UC Berkeley).
